About the exhibition

The Walk of Water initiative, led by Onewater in collaboration with UNESCO’s World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP), has brought global attention to pressing water issues through impactful exhibitions. These exhibitions have been strategically aligned with major international water events and prominently showcased at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris to maximize reach and relevance.

The very first Walk of Water exhibition took place in December 2022 under the title Make the Invisible Visible. Curated by Onewater and UNESCO WWAP, this powerful exhibition featured compelling photo stories drawn from the global photostory contest on groundwater. Timed to coincide with the UN-Water Summit on Groundwater, the exhibition served as a visual and narrative companion to the Summit, offering attendees and the wider public an artistic lens through which to understand the invisible yet vital role of groundwater. Displayed both in the central atrium and along the exterior fence of UNESCO HQ, the exhibition ensured high visibility and engagement.

This inaugural edition of the contest and exhibition was supported not only by UNESCO but also by the International Water Resources Association (IWRA) and the Global Water Partnership (GWP), demonstrating a strong collaborative spirit within the global water community. It laid the foundation for what has become an evolving platform for water storytelling—Walk of Water—highlighting diverse themes each year and reaching new audiences across the world.
